Tiny Powerhouse – Well-Designed, Affordable, and Reliable

These Waveshare ESP32-S3 Mini boards are on point! For the price, you’re getting a seriously capable MCU with a clean, well-thought-out layout that makes prototyping and integration a breeze. The build quality is solid, and it performs exactly as expected—fast, stable, and responsive. What really stands out is the form factor—it’s probably one of the smallest ESP32-S3 boards I’ve ever used, making it ideal for compact or space-constrained projects. It fits right into my hobby workflow without a hitch. If they ever release a version with built-in EEPROM, it might just become my go-to board for every project. As it stands, this is a fantastic little workhorse that delivers great value. Highly recommended for makers, tinkerers, and developers alike!

Great Small Form Factor ESP32-S3 Dev Board

Very good development board with a builtin antenna and castellated edges, which are useful in integrating into a custom PCB. Very easy to use with either Arduino or Micropython, inexpensive, and very fast both in wifi/bluetooth connectivity and overall processing speed

They work right

Thank you Waveshare. These little guys are great. They run code properly with no fuss. Unlike the seeed variants which I had nothing but trouble from.I've been fire and ice with this brand but I'm warming up to them as my reluctant favorite for delivering where it counts even if documentation is vague. They work right.

Bad batch maybe?

I might have just received a faulty batch, but my experience with the ESP32-S3-Zero has been frustrating, to say the least. While the device seems to accept uploaded sketches, it's a constant struggle to get it to work reliably. I've used many other ESP32 boards without any issues, but this one has been a headache from the start. The board often fails to show up in the Serial Monitor, regardless of USB port or computer, and I've tried every diagnostic I could think of. At best, there's about a 50% chance that a basic code upload will work. With any added complexity, the board frequently shuts down and reboots in an endless loop. Even trying to connect to Wi-Fi triggers this cycle. The issue could be a mix of my knowledge level and the board itself, but I know the same sketches run perfectly on other ESP32 models. With this board, it feels like a victory just to get an error message on the Serial Monitor. Returning the item seems more hassle than it's worth at this point. Save yourself the frustration and consider a more reliable option.

Tiny powerhouse computer.

I can't say enough good things about this device. It's my first time playing with ESP32 hardware. I purchased these and the matrix unit, and love both. It's difficult to understand how capable an $8 computer can be. This dual core and FreeRTOS seems to have no end of functionality. Withing weeks I've been able to monitor BLE broadcasts, decode and log the captured data using LittleFS. Utilize the LED to indicate a variety of device status. Used WiFi and NTP to set the datetime for logging, and a Touch button to toggle webservice to extract and/or graph data. Just need to monitor the motion sensors to sleep when not active and I'll have used most features on this tiny board. I'll be buying more of these for ESPHome and future project uses.

Great little controller

Super small and compact. Yet still very powerful esp32. Prefect for the small projects I’ve been Turing out.

USB C mini dev board? lets go

Waveshare continues to knock it out of the park. I can't say much bad here. You get what you see.I picked these up because I actually had given out or have used all of my prior USB C mini-project boards and needed some more. I recently wanted to try to setup my boards with a humidity and temp sensor and place power them with USB A male -> USB-C Male adapter to keep its footprint as small as possible. Beaming this data to a prometheus endpoint so grafana can pick it up.The small RGB light on the board is nice touch. It easily allows you to see status if you program it to do such. The wifi/bluetooth signal is good - but don't expect the world from such a small antennae. If you've used boards even like ones such as the rpi with wifi, it can be pretty comparable to that. Range isn't much of an issue for me since the server and the router sit pretty close together.Documentation is good enough for someone basic to come in and get started. Some more advanced users can probably guess how to hit the ground running. Overall I think these are great for small scale projects that don't require much power/wiring. It was nice seeing a 5V pinout over a 3.3v I have seen in the past with other smaller microcontrollers.
