Our favorite Osmo game so far
My six year old received Osmo (for the I Pad) for Christmas and I just added this game to our collection. This is by far his favorite one. He played it for about an hour and a half the first time and kept saying "This is so cool!" when he would make a potion. Today he asked to play this game instead of asking to watch videos or play video games. This is a complete win in my book. The set comes with a small board, small plastic squares and long ten-frame squares, and a potions booklet that kids put stickers in as they learn new potion recipes. The set overall isn't as nice as the starter kits and doesn't come with nice plastic storage boxes for the small plastic pieces. It's all stored in a cardboard box with a magnetic lid that seems okay but just isn't as nice as the plastic storage boxes we've gotten in other sets. For $60 I would expect a little nicer storage, but it's not a deal breaker for me.The actual games are really fun, according to my son. For the potions game, kids need to add certain ingredients in certain amounts. So in one column they might need two purple feathers and in the second column three mushrooms. Then they need "sparkles" to make the potion work. You need one sparkle for every ingredient, so they need to add up their ingredients to figure out how many sparkles are needed. It's done in such a way that it's pretty easy for them to miss that they're actually doing math, and it really just feels like a cool game. As they help more characters by giving them potions, they receive "joy" (in the form of points) that can unlock other rooms and items inside the room. These other games work much the same way and again feel more like just a fun game than actual math.I did need to be close by for some parts, as my son can't read yet and for some reason not all of the dialogue is spoken aloud. If your kid is a good reader then they can probably manage this game on their own. The math gets more difficult as your kid progresses, and after a couple hours we're already learning new things. I actually used this as math instruction since we're homeschooling this year due to Covid. My kid thought he was getting to play instead of doing school, which was great for both of us.So overall, this is totally worth it and if you're on the fence at all I'd say go for it. Is it overpriced for what you get? Yes, probably so. Is it worth the money? For me it is. I think it depends on how much use your kid will get out of this and how much they enjoy it. For us, this was a home run and I really hope they make more games like this one for Osmo.

Osmo Learning is great!!
This is very engaging for any kid, it has story line and game progress that will keep your child progressing to the end with cool unlocks along the way! Quick an easy setup with any ipad children will be able to do it after first time showing them. This particular package helps evolve their math skills making magical potions with different ingredients. It also utilizes counters 1s and 10s for kids to represent numbers for the problem. Would recommend to anyone looking to find an app that will really help your child WANT to learn!!

Worthy investment!
I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so after reading so many mixed reviews on this Osmo game... I am currently a reading and math specialist and have worked in education for over 20 years. I am also mom to a 7 year old who can at times be very reluctant to engage in learning activities... My daughter is currently in a 1 month Holiday Break and Math Wizard has been a life safer!!! She plays on it everyday for at least half an hour and enjoys doing so... The game reinforces different math skills in a way that is easy for her to grasp, using visuals and manipulatives to represent quantities. She has been using it for a little over 2 months and there is enough replayability to keep her interest. Also, as she gets better on her math skills it automatically increases the difficulty level. I get that some are expressing that $60 for an Osmo game is a steep price, but considering how much money parents might spend on tutors, Outschool classes, etc. I say this is a SMALL price to pay for maintaining and developing math skills in a way that kids really enjoy... I can only wish that I had this game when I was younger.... I would have loved it! Just like my daughter loves it now....

Excellent game
This is a very well designed game. My daughter loves dragons and this game has several features that kids enjoy. You find (like hide and seek) new dragons in different lands, you measure their length in cm and inches. You offer them different foods to see what they like and you have to be sure they get enough on their plate. You earn badges and there are several ranks to pass through on your way to master dragonologist (it was something like that). Sometimes the dragons give you eggs to raise in your dragon reserve and you can feed them and name them. There is a book that you use and there is space to take notes as you go. My child loves this because it's her own dragon notebook where she can write down what she learns. It has the names of the different dragons and where they love and what the can do.There are a few other games that come along with it and those are fun too. This is the best osmo game so far. The magical workshop is right up there it too and they operate out of the same app. Magically workshop send to have more math based tasks thank this one but it is still great. I was very impressed with this game.

So much fun
We love this! My son just gets a little frustrated when the mat takes so long to read the pieces.

Glitch fixed
Edit: contacted Osmo and within a week they released a fix for the glitch! Would definite recommend the product knowing they are so responsive!Original: Not sure when the glitch started but I bought this July 2023 for a 9th generation iPad (up to date iOS) and the software is unusable. I own at least 12 other games, including another math wizard game, which all work fine. The images show there’s a character missing on screen that is blocking all the instructions and on-screen guidance.

Osmo is an exceptional tool for your child's development putting their problem solving to the test!
We have enjoyed seeing our son be excited every time he takes out the iPad to use his various Osmo learning games. The math game has been one of his favorites and he loves to use his critical thinking skills combined with his problem-solving to make potions and participate in several other math games that are offered with the Math Wizard app offered by Osmo.
