Loud but effective
Winder arrived in perfect condition and couldn't have been easier to set up, although if you've not used one before it might take a second to figure out how to work it. When it says high speed, it is NOT kidding. I can go through a 6 ounce ball in about 8-10 minutes, if that. Depends on how many tangles the yarn gets itself into. The arm that holds the yarn wiggles a bit, but its fine if you get the bolt tight enough and make sure the arm goes UNDER the washer, not just the wingnut. Overall very sturdy, I've gone through easily 30 balls of yarn in about a week and it's not showing any signs of stress. Some of the gears are plastic, which disappointed me a bit, but its very sturdy plastic and they aren't thin or anything. It fits my desk nicely as well. the only yarn i have yet to try with it is super thick stuff. I have some lion brand hometown i haven't tried on it because i don't want to break anything, but i DID try it with size 10 crochet thread, which works better than you'd think. Still have to see if it'll take size 40 though. Now for the only downside I've found, it's noisy. Not earth-shatteringly noisy, but it makes quite a loud vibrating/rumbling noise into the table. For what its worth, my family isn't terribly bothered by it when I've got my bedroom door closed, but for anyone in the same room it's quite loud.Overall I'm very happy. Not going to claim it's the best out there, because i know there are more expensive, quieter models, but this one works really well for the price.

People I think we have a winner!
This is the FOURTH style of winder that I’ve tried so far this month! Also the first one I’ve actually liked! Im afraid to say too much because I might jinx it! The gears bay the handle make all the difference. Not once did it slip or jump gears. Not once did it slip the yarn off of the “cake” making me backtrack and rewind a section. My one disappointment is the gears in front are nylon-not metal. Probably to make it quieter but honestly it makes very little noise as it is. Fingers crossed that it holds up! Im thinking I may get a small wooden stool to attach it to to make it more stable. I also used a silicone mat under it to keep it from slipping. Highly recommend that! The thread guide also has a small rubber washer on it to keep it from traveling left and right while you’re winding. That’s a nice little thing that none of the others thought of. The only ones I haven’t tried so they aren’t included in this is the wooden ones. Very beautiful and I may try one of those one day but the budget doesn’t currently allow. But as for this winder I give two thumbs up. Would DEFINITELY recommend! If you buy and it doesn’t work I’d have to say that it got damaged somehow and try to get a replacement. Mine was fine and worked absolutely great right away! As long as it continues the way it started we have an absolute winner!

incomplete product
I ordered the Large Capacity Ball Winder, which was delivered as scheduled. Both the Amazon packaging and manufacturer's packaging was damaged. The box did not include any written installation information or the advertised yarn snips. It was easy enough to set up, and appears to work properly. Any questions could be answered from online videos, but I think it's fair to expect to receive the listed components.

Works very well once you take the time to tweak it and learn how to use it.
It's loud, it's kinda cheaply made, and the packaging it is shipped in isn't great so it shows up looking pretty used and abused. In fact I thought that it was used and returned for being defective when it arrived but the company was great about shipping me another one in a timely manner and when that one arrived it looked just as beat up and used, so it I think it was just a lack of protection in the packaging. For the price, it works so well and is indeed very fast. It does take some tweaks and has a learning curve, but if you take the time to bend arms and figure out which way to spin it so that you can go really fast without the bobbin type part popping off, you'll be set and the only thing that will slow you down is the skein of yarn itself if it's one that is prone to tangling. I used a can cozie to put between it and the chair I used to spin it on and that both protects the wood and keeps the winder from wiggling around and coming loose. Any rubbery type material should work, like the non-skid stuff you line shelves with that you can get at the dollar store. If you can afford to spend twice the amount or more, I'd pass this and go for the higher end one like a Stanwood, but if you are like me and need a budget friendly winder and don't mind a little noise and putting a little effort into some tweaks and are smart enough to just wind the handle the opposite way if the middle part pops off, then you can't go wrong with this one. I had over 7 milk crates worth of yarn wound up in my free time over a few days, this thing is FAST and it definitely accommodates very large skeins. The customer service was great and if you have any issues they seem happy to help, as I said, they were quick to send me a new one when I thought the first one was someone elses' reject that was sent back for not working.
