A wonderful book
I really enjoyed this book. It is beautifully written, taking the reader on a journey with the author, using “verbal postcards” to describe and reflect upon his experiences when travelling at home and abroad. Through Nigel’s descriptions of sharing food and drink with others-often in the most humble of settings, and with the most basic ingredients - he really succeeds in helping the reader to reflect upon the social, moral, spiritual and cultural aspects of sharing and enjoying food and drink together, wherever it may be, and whoever the experience may be with. There are some real laugh at loud moments as well….Im desperate to find out about the story behind the duffle bag and the banana!!In conclusion, a brilliant read. One of those books that helps one to keep things in perspective, and really appreciate the simple things in life, which we often take for granted.

Savoring Life, One Memory at a Time
I’ve just finished a beautiful little gem of a book by Nigel Slater, and I’m truly moved. It’s a collection of his memories; moments from his travels, his house, his garden, and everything in between. Some of it made me reflect, some of it had me chuckling, and there were a few bits that left me a bit envious. It’s a journey through his world, and as someone who’s never picked up one of his cookbooks or autobiography before, I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer warmth and elegance of his writing. It’s smooth, poetic, almost like reading a well-crafted recipe, you can feel the love and thoughtfulness in every word. There are moments that really linger, and by the end, my heart felt full in a way I didn’t expect. The only thing I wish it had was illustrations, especially on the section about the garden. Some of the flowers he mentions flew right over my head, and while I could’ve Googled them, I didn’t want to break the flow. But honestly, even without them, it’s a wonderful collection you can dip into anytime. Perfect for when you need a little escape or just a moment to appreciate the beauty in life.

soothing balm in a troubled world
You either 'get' this book, or you don't....many won't, but I do.I knew that I would love, read and re-read this gorgeous book, even before it arrived at my door.I have just risen from my armchair, in a hazy, lazy, state of bliss, after a rather stressful day....I almost dozed-off....not through book-boredom, but through Nigel's words....like balm to my all- too- busy mind. I felt soothed, but also compelled to put my feelings on here. I have in all honestly, never felt so strongly about a book..I could feel every word, if that makes sense to any of you.I am almost 75% through the book and do not want it to end...I have eked out my reading times, to make it last....but it will never end, as I shall return and dip in and out whenever I feel the need for some Nigel 'balm' and Nigel sure gives great 'balm' in these troubled times.we should all appreciate the joy of the often overlooked, simple things in life...whether through our travels, on our own doorsteps.I so 'get' this book and hope that you, dear reader, do, also. Enjoy!

The ideal bedside companion
This charming book is the ideal bedside companion - you can read as much or as little as you like, no need to follow a thread or remember what you read last night, because each page is self-contained and independent. Always insightful, he has a real gift for plunging you instantly into a place or a situation. And how far and how widely he has travelled! This treat of a book will take you to so many places that you are unlikely to visit yourself.

Quintessential Nigel
I love Nigel’s writing - he could write about watching paint dry (indeed this book actually has a short section on paint charts!) and it would be a good read, but he’s at his best when writing about himself and I usually find myself leafing quickly past his recipes to get to the bits about ‘being Nigel’. A Thousand Feasts is pretty much a handbook for how to be more Nigel - and with it comes a deeper understanding of just how unattainable that state is. A superb insight - and all in lovely bite-sized chunks that can be read in any order. It’s a book you’ll want to read over and over again. I absolutely loved it.

Thankyou
Thankyou to Nigel Slater for taking me on this meandering journey .I feel lulled .My house is currently under siege by plumbers & electricians, the noise only made bearable by this book that I’ve soaked in in one sitting.Beautifully written in the authors serene & zen way. As someone that practices mindfulness I think I will be noticing even more around now. Blessed be to NS x
