Q: Where are the straps supposed to fold away to when using the product as a pannier?

I just remove them and store them inside the pannier

Don't know but if you explore all the photos on all the different colours you will see different arrangements

They claim it's 27L when closed and 30L with the top open. Have never used with top open. I use two of these for my commute. I can fit tablet, headphones, lunch, change of clothes, and things for swimming after work. Also use them for shopping and for excursions on holiday. They're strong and waterproof, except for the zip pocket in the front which water gets in through the zip in heavy rain
