The Everything Art Handbook: A comprehensive guide to more than 100 art techniques and tools of the trade (The Complete Book of ...) Hardcover – Illustrated, September 1, 2016

I bought this book new for $6 and while I consider myself "professional" I am humble enough to admit that refreshers on the "rules" of art can be it's own springboard for new art projects. This guide is aimed in the student's direction, and I can see how it would be helpful and accessible to budding artist without previous training. For persons who may already know a good deal of these techniques and mediums, it a manual to refer to when in doubt. Although I am able to draw and paint "realistically" my interests tend toward the abstract. But that doesn't mean that this book was any less helpful to me --- no, no, no. Like creative writing, visual art also has some hard and fast rules... first you have to learn the rules, then you can go out and break them. This was a great pillar of "the rules" to add to my art library. Also, for anyone thinking of teaching art to others (something I've considered and may begin doing), this book is a great resource to for bridge that gap between artist and teacher. It's easy for a good artist to do what they do, but to try to unravel methods for tutoring another person, well... that can be cumbersome. The many topics covered in this book, like perspective, color palettes, life drawing, various mediums, composition, etc., make it a valuable overview of "everything art." Perhaps a little cheesy at times, with the thumbs up symbols, but I prefer an author to be unassuming... as opposed to an unbearable, over the top, intellectual snob. That, to me, is a thumbs down!!

This is, by far the most practical art book I've ever seen. It has everything you need to know about materials, in illustrated and excellent yet concise details, explaining types of brushes, pencils, erasers, the color spectrum, really everything a beginning artist needs to know. I learned more at the art supply store than I did in art classes. I highly recommend it. I'm using the library version until my order arrives.After using this book more I'm disappointed that the human figure examples are nearly all male. On a two page spread focusing on human proportions, there are 7 male figures or torsos, and one female figure. It used to be more prevalent; but this is a 2016 edition and they really need to balance the content much more fairly.

This book gives techniques for many different art forms from drawing to oils, acrylics and watercolor. It's fabulous for those trying to experiment with different media.

I saw this book and was impressed because it contains information on a lot of different art mediums. Accidentally ordered 2 but donated the second one to the local library.

This is great art reference book to have in an artists collection. It shows details about many different art styles & what tools you will need to purchase

Love this book! If you are a new or existing artist, you will appreciate this book. I basically covers everything you need to know to get started or you can use it as a reference as I do.

Great book for any artist's shelf! Has a bit of everything, and I am a mixed-media artist, so it makes a great reference book for my projects.
