I am afraid I don't understand your question about the dollar store. And I haven't had the old system. This is the first O-Cedar bucket floor cleaning system I have ever owned but its awesome. The clean and dirty water are separated and the the wringer wrings the water out really well.! Does that help??

Separate tanks for dirty water and fresh water thus preventing cross contamination.All plastics are very sturdy and good quality, Zero spillage and good spinner removes all the extra water from the mop head. Will recommend
