Q: Will this replace the mixet 0503?

There are basically only 2 Mixet cartridges that were used. Pre 1968 used the long cartridge, post 1968 used the short cartridge. That's what I see 99 per cent of the time. If it is a short cartridge measuring around 4 inches long then this Danco unit will do the job.

The short answer is there are only 2 sizes of Mixet cartridges that were ever made. Pre 1968 houses had a long cartridge, approximately 7 inches long. After 1968 Mixet switched to a short style cartridge and this is most likely what you have in your house. Mixet never made a shorter cartridge than the one I think you have. It is either the long cartridge or the short cartridge. You do have to be careful when installing the cartridge. Make sure that chrome retainer nut is tightened down all the way. It doesn't tighten easily as it has a Teflon pad inside to lock it in place. If the cartridge seems too long then that means you haven't tightened the chrome retainer nut down completely. Make sure that when you tighten down the retainer nut that the other Teflon spacer and both brass friction rings are inside the retainer nut before you tighten it onto the valve body, Hope this helps.

np, one thing I found helpful is to snug it up. The handle on the outside for temperature may seem hard to turn when the water is off, but turn on the water and it's easy to turn.
