Works on DMM that Measures Frequency in Hz
To measure RPM on an engine with a DMM that measures frequency:1. Set meter to frequency in Hz (cycles per second). Use VAC dial setting if applicable.2. Clip inductive pickup onto spark plug wire and connect test leads to DMM ohm/volt inputs.3. Start engine and take reading (use "AVG" mode if available).4. Multiply result by 60 on magneto (or 120 on conventional ignition) to convert to RPM (revolutions or cycles per minute). In the example shown for a small engine with magneto ignition, 57.46Hz × 60sec/min = 3448RPM. That is right within the spec range of this particular engine. Reading was confirmed on another meter.

Didn’t work at all.
Got it to measure RPM on my dirt bike and ATV and it didn’t work. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but I put the dial on my Fluke to Hz and it display zero at idle, it only shows numbers when at high idle. Defeat the purpose of buying it. Not recommended.

Performs well
Works as described. I used this to replace an inductive pickup on an older digital tack/dwell meter and it worked great.

Works perfectly with Fluke 88V multimeter to check engine RPM
I was able to check RPM of backup generator, leaf blower, and chainsaw by hooking this around spark plug wire and setting multimeter to RPM mode. Be careful, wire is not heat proof; it will melt in a second if it touches hot engine block or exhaust pipe.

Works great!!!
Used it with a Fluke 189, set it to mV AC, then press Hz button. If you are using it as a low cost tachometer remember to multiply Hz by 60 for RPM.

Good Stuff
Got these to use w\ my Autel AL539B Scan Tool\DMM to test ignition coil spark delivery thru spark plug wires. Good price.
