The Terrific Grand Finale
The grand finale of The Spider trilogy is full of mayhem and surprises. Picking up where vol.2 left off Richard Wentworth, AKA The Spider deals with villain "The Lawgiver" and continues to have his hands full with billionaire thug "The Fly." Eventually stripped of everything except his secret identity, Richard Wentworth rallies to meet the call of dispensing of justice. Along the way, his already complicated relationship with Nita Sloan is further stretched and Richard Wentworth battles the demon rum as well as his corporeal foes.If you read volume one and two you need to see how it all ends. The Spider is a masked vigilante in the truest sense. No way in hell is he going to follow the Batman ethos of "no killing", he is a very different sort of millionaire!

THE SPIDER crawls to a subdued finish.
David Liss' work on THE SPIDER starts off pretty top-notch but unfortunately crawls to a subdued finish -- and by that I mean there's so much upheaval that it feels like there was no status quo to disrupt, so it's hard by the end of the book to calculate the cost, especially since the series doesn't continue from here to lay out the consequences. Overall the series was good, but I felt a lot was shoehorned in, and it cost the reader.
