While this is a metric washer, it is an S.A.E. type of flat washer in that it is smaller in outside diameter than the other more commonly available washer with the same inside diameter. When clamping metal surfaces this small diameter washer is more commonly used, and the auto parts and big box stores usually don't keep their shelves stocked with them.
